I met Jo in Ed Sheeran's hotel room after a 3arena show of his a couple of years back. Much like myself, she was there through friends and wasn't a direct pal of Ed's, so we got chatting, found a mutual love of all things photographic, and have been friends since. Last Sunday, myself Jo and make-up wonder-artist Nicki Buglewicz went for an early morning adventure down the South Dublin coastline taking photos, in what was my first official gig in fashion photography I guess.
Fashion and editorial photography has always been something that has evaded me for some reason. I guess I just don't understand the mechanisms that keep it ticking. Despite a massive appreciation for the art form, and, following a whole host of super talented Irish fashion photographers (Alex Hutchinson, Dave Kavanagh, Evan Doherty to name a few...), the opportunities just never present themselves. So, when Jo asked if I was interested in doing a shoot with her, I jumped at the chance.
We met at 6.30am in my place to start hair and make up preperations. The idea was to catch the sunrise light along the Irish east coast which has so reliably fueled past photoshoots for me. Sunrise was due for 8.11am, so we'd plenty of time. Then we got in the car and drove South until the light was right and the locations made sense. Over the course of the next 3 or 4 hours, we'd hit locations in Sandymount, Seapoint, Dun Laoghaire and Greystones. Here's some of how it went down.
